A birthday card for Pat

It’s been said that friends are family you choose for yourself…

I know for a fact it’s true! I have been blessed with two wonderful “sisters,” Pat and Lois. So, let me start by sending a big, warm September 9th birthday greeting to Pat. I made a birthday card for this special lady using one of my favourite Power Poppy digital stamps, “Layer Cake.” I created shine on the candy decoration using Crystal Lacquer 3D. The colouring was done with my Copic markers.

This cake is so much fun to colour and there’s no limit to how many “flavours” you can create. Just for fun, I added a little pocket to the front of the card to hold some birthday messages. I always finish the inside of my cards, too…

And, last but not least, my cards are never finished until my Globug Ideas logo is put onto the back.

That’s it for now, folks. I hope I have inspired you to make a card for someone special in your life.

Thanks, so much, for visiting Globug Ideas. I hope you will drop in again, soon. Until then, happy crafting, happy everything!

Vintage truck birthday card

Happy Birthday to my amazing husband!

My husband, Peter, is passionate about golf, technology and food. So, of course, the themes of the birthday and Father’s Day cards I have made for him over the years have always been based on one of his passions. But, there’s a limit to how many golf cards one can make. I just had to come up with a new theme for this year’s birthday card, so after much thought, I decided to go with a vintage theme. Peter would take a country cottage or a log cabin over a modern house, any day. Here’s what I came up with…

I coloured this vintage truck with my Copic markers and I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. I did a “fussy cut” on it and used pop-ups to give the cards some depth and to put more focus on the truck. I created the background in soft, muted pastels to ensure the spotlight stayed on the truck. To the right, I added a post with directions signs on it and superimposed the words, love, happiness, joy, devotion and companionship. A touch of my brown ink pad further enhanced the vintage-distressed look I was going for.

After the whole background was coloured, I ran it through my Cuttlebug, using the Sizzix embossing folder, “Square Lattice.” It such a neat effect!

Here is a close-up of the little cottage.

And, here is a closer look at the direction sign, with its special messages.

So, that’s it for now. I have lots more cards to post…as soon as I send them to the recipients. LOL!

I hope I have inspired you to make a card for someone special in your life.

Thank you for visiting Globug Ideas. I hope you will drop in again soon.

Happy crafting…and, remember to let your imagination run wild.

Everything’s Rosy birthday card…

If you love digital stamps and  you don’t already know about Power Poppy, you must visit the site and check out the amazing collection of realistic floral images. Marcella Hawley, the artist who creates these spectacular drawings, has an eye for beauty and puts her heart into every drawing. This particular image, called Everything’s Rosy, is my new favourite…until my next Power Poppy purchase. So, now, here is my second Everything’s Rosy card, this time for my daughter’s 49th birthday. I hope you like it.

I coloured this one with my Copic Markers and added a background paper of tiny delicate roses.

In the photo below, you can see the dimension in the cups, which I created with 3D Crystal Lacquer2016-07-23 Angie's 49th Birthday (3)

The thing that makes hand-crafted cards so special is the attention to detail. For example, I always finish the inside panels and the back of my cards to match the front. I also create a custom envelope for each one. In the photo below, I have just started to customize the envelope.

And, finally, here are the inside panels.

Typically, I add matching card stock to the top panel and include an inspiration quote appropriate to the occasion or recipient.

So, that’s it, for now. I hope this inspires you to create a pretty card for someone special in your life.

My baby girl turns 49

Tomorrow (August 1, 2016) my beautiful daughter, Angie, will turn 49.Me and Angie at MS Bike Tour 2012

Angie-newborn August 1, 1967Can it really be almost a half century since I first held my precious baby in my arms?

Her big brown eyes were wide open and her chubby cheeks were the prettiest shade of pink.

I had never before felt such an overwhelming sense of  love.

I was in awe of this little Child of God.

I was her willing hand-maid, her lady-in-waiting.

Nothing would ever be too good for my Angie.

I loved you then. I love you still. I always have. I always will.

Happy Birthday, Angie. I love you more than chocolate!

Pretty Peony Card

Pretty Peonies Birthday Card

I think everyone loves the sweet scent of peonies. Their delicate petals and pastel colours are one of spring’s special gifts.

These pretty peonies are by Marcella Hawley of Power Poppy. Just as a note, I’m not, in any way, affiliated with Power Poppy or Marcella Hawley, I just thought I’d include the link so you can visit her site and browse through the beautiful floral digis.

Julie, July 30, 2016.jpg--CU of cupI really enjoyed making this birthday card for my dear friend, Julie. As always, I coloured it with my Copic markers and then added shine and dimension to the cups with 3-D Crystal Lacquer. I tried to capture it on the striped mug, but I just couldn’t get the right lighting. I think you can see the shine and 3-D effect quite clearly on the polka dot tea cup. Isn’t it pretty?
