More making afghans for little ones

A few months ago I decided to crochet afghans for kids. I remember when I was in kindergarten I had my own little blanket–all the kids did–which we used a “rest time.”

I bet most kids would like to have their own blankets, so I sent the first three I made to a shelter for women and their children. I have three more ready to go and thought I would show them off here in the hopes of inspiring others to create something similar for less fortunate kids in your community. My next one will be a rainbow of colours, leftovers from other projects.

By the way, I am using Bernat Handicrafter’s Cotton yarn because it stays looking new forever–no pilling no fuzzies! Also, I’m using a 6.5 mm crochet hook; you could certainly use a bigger one for a looser weave and a faster finish time. One last tip, check your local dollar store for cotton yarn–I found tons of it for a fraction of what you would pay at craft stores.

I hope my every one of my little blankets becomes some child’s favourite “blankie.”

Thanks for dropping by. Please come back soon to check out my next projects.

Happy New year and happy crafting!
