Never-ending card

Oh, my goodness, this is the longest I have ever gone without blogging. My husband and I having been laying a flagstone patio on the side and around the back of our house. It measures about 25 ft. x 50 ft. Whew!! what a job. So, needless to say, I’ve been a bit tired lately and my evenings have consisted of a shower, dinner, and falling asleep in my favourite chair or early to bed.

Anyway, here I am, this time with a puzzle card that I made for a friend’s birthday. The birthday boy, Altar (pronounced All-Tar), came to Canada from Turkey a few years ago. He started off as a friend of my son, but we soon “adopted” him and I now call him, “my favourite Turkish son.” He loves puzzles, so this was a perfect card for him.

There are great instructions on YouTube on how to make a never-ending card (also known as an endless card or a puzzle card), which I will include at the end of this post.

Here is the front of the card. I put a l ladybug on the left side with a message from myself. On the right side I put a funny bird with a noise-maker and a message from my husband, Peter.

Open the two doors on the front of the card to reveal the next surprise. I’ve just used some colourful bits and pieces to decorate these panels. I also wrote, “Happy Birthday,” in white gel pen.

Next, open the top and bottom flaps to reveal yet another surprise. This one shows birthday candles and flowers. And, of course, I included my little Globug Ideas logo.:)

Now, open the top and bottom flap, again, to uncover a message from Cookie, our beautiful little Bichon Frise and a birthday cupcake.

Open the doors once, again, and you’re back to the beginning!

This card is as much fun to make as it is to receive. And, it’s so much fun to see the wonder and amazement on people’s face as they try to figure out the puzzle card.

I hope this funny card inspires you. This is my first one, but I’ll be back with another…hopefully much improved!

And now, as promised, here is a link to an excellent tutorial on how to make a never-ending card: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_PP5JY8ubo&feature=related

Have fun!!

Ladybug birthday card…so cute!

 Ladybug, ladybug!

Hi, folks! I wanted to share with you, this cute little ladybug card I made, recently.

Last week, a lady from Iowa contacted me and told me that her little daughter’s first birthday was coming up in April. The theme for the party is “ladybugs,” and she was hoping to find a cute ladybug birthday card. So, we agreed that I would create something special for her little birthday girl. Here it is!

I decided to make an easel card so that it would stand up nicely throughout the birthday celebrations. The first photo is the front of the card. I just love the big eyes and impish smile on that little ladybug. The second photo shows the card opened up.

I had a little strip of my real wood fence left, and thought it would work perfectly with the ladybug and all the little flowers. Notice how the flowers are growing over and through the fence.

I made sure to leave some white space for signatures. The back of the card also has lots of space for writing special messages.

When the card is opened all the way, it reveals the special message for the little birthday girl.

The last photo shows the card from the side. See the easel effect? When the celebrations are over, and you’re ready to put it away, the front just lifts up and then folds flat over the base piece. Such a cool idea!

I hope the little girl who will be receiving this card will be able to look at it again when she is older–and when she does, I hope she tucks it away in a special treasure box. It will be so nice for her to know that her mommy gave her a card that was hand-crafted, especially for her!

If you would like a hand-crafted card for someone special… I would be happy to create one to your specifications. If you’re not sure what kind of card you want, just let me know what the occasion is and something about the person(s) you will be giving it to. For example, does he/she have a special hobby, interest or passion. Does this person have some quirks, like always being late…or early? Is the person a fashionista or sneaker-wearing casual dude? Is the occasion a 50th wedding anniversary or a divorce celebration? Whatever the occasion, Globug Ideas can create something very special unique!

If you can imagine it, I can create it…usually within a day or two. But to make sure you have it in time for the big day, we will need to factor in at least a couple of weeks for snail mail within Canada and the United States. If you are outside of North America, we’ll definitely need to start earlier!

Until next time, happy crafting!
