Chapter One: When a door closes, a window opens.

They say, that when a door closes a window opens.

There we were, my husband Peter and I, mourning the passing of our wonderful Bichon, Cookie. She had been our constant and beloved companion for 13 1/2 years and, oh, how we missed her. And, then, one evening, Peter came across a breeder who had a litter of nine-week-old puppies ready to go to forever homes.

“Have a look at this,” Peter said to me, “Maltese puppies and they are adorable. Let’s go see them.”

I looked at the photos and my heart started to do little puppy flip-flops. “Okay, let’s go have a look at them.”

The next day, December 11, we made the one-hour drive to the breeder’s home, where we were greeted by three gorgeous puppies–all girls–along with their mommy and daddy. With my arms full of fluffy white puppies, how could I resist such cuteness!

The tiny one in the middle is Holly. She is our Christmas baby and our forever girl.

(Holly was born on Saturday, October 14 and weighed 3.5 ounces).
