I finally kicked into action this week and made a few cards. It just seemed to happen smoothly, unlike other times when I labour (for what seems like hours) over which image to use with which paper, and so on. You’ve probably been there yourself, right?

It all started when I saw a card on Facebook that had been coloured with Prismacolor pencils on Kraft coloured card stock. I have always coloured with Copic Markers on white stock, and was ready for something new. It was fun and I really like the way the cards turned out. By the way, I also used a white gel pen to add some highlights and a touch of sparkle glue.

A New Home!

A beautiful home for a beautiful couple! 

My beautiful friend, Angie, and her husband, Brian, bought a lovely new home last year. It’s quaint, quirky and very cozy, so I wanted to make them a card that gave off that, “we’re home, at last,” feeling.

Of course, I used my Copic markers to colour the card. Then, I added dimension by using pop dots to raise the various parts of the house and the shrubs.

It’s an “easel” card, so it stands up by itself.

Here’s the inside, with so much room for sentiments and special messages.

I used a black Copic marker to sort of antique the edges of the yellow parts. I think it
looks kind of neat.

Below are some close-ups of the text and sentiments that I chose.

This card was so much fun to make, and one of my favourites.

 

 

I hope that Angie and Brian liked my card. They are such a wonderful couple and they deserve all the happiness their new home can bring them.

Mostly Copic with a dash of  Prismacolor and a sprinkling of gel pen.

I love this Power Poppy image, Everything’ Rosy. I have coloured it several times, using various colours and techniques. In this image, I added a dash of white gel pen to the edges, let’s call it artistic licence. That’s what’s so great about art, you are free to create, add, delete or alter your work any way the mood hits you.

Copic Airbrush System

Copic Airbrush System

I just bought my first Copic Airbrush System! I chose the ABS-1N, which includes everything I need to become an airbrushing pro…well, that and a little practice. Here’s what’s in the kit: 

  • Air Grip
  • Air Adaptor
  • Air Can 180 (40-45 minutes of air time)
  • Air Hose
  • Air Can Holder

I tried it today on a pretty image called Pure Prairie Bouquet by Marcella Hawley of Power Poppy. I used a digital image, which I sized to a fit on a 5″x5″ piece of cardstock (the finished card is 6″x6″). I then printed out two copies and sent one copy through my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a “mask.” A mask is an cut-out duplicate of the image you want to colour. I placed it directly over the image, and then used my airbrush to create a blue background.

Let’s Add a Special Effect

To create a special effect, I put a few drops of Copic Colorless Blender on the corner of an old facecloth and dabbed it over the airbrushed area.

Next, I removed the mask and coloured the image with my Copic markers.

75th Birthday card for Lois

My good friend, Lois, whom I like to think of as a sister I chose for myself, just celebrated her 75th birthday. Because we live hundreds of miles from each other, we weren’t able to be together to celebrate her big day. So, I did the next best thing (as all card-makers do), I made her a special birthday card.

This gorgeous cupcake image is by Vanilla Arts Co. I just discovered them a couple of weeks ago and I am in love with their images…but, I digress.

I decided to make an easel card so that Lois could stand it up easily on a table or shelf. The best part of making this card was, as always, colouring it with my Copic Markers. Here are some photos of the finished card…

As it happens, Lois is in the process of making some big life changes and I wanted the messages in my card to be encouraging to her as she works through the decision-making process. I just know that this coming year is going to be fantastic for her!
