I’m always looking for new digi artists…

I’ve been colouring digis for years and, to be honest, I’m pretty tired of the standard digis…you know, the cute little girls and adorable puppies. Well, recently, I discovered Christine Karron. Her digital images are beyond superb! Here are a few that I coloured last week and made into cards. I love, love, love Christine Karron’s work! (By the way, I coloured these with my Copic markers).

Thinking of You Card

My granddaughter, Ashleigh, lives halfway across the country from me. She has a busy life with her full-time job and her university studies and I couldn’t be more proud of her.

Here’s a card that I made for her just to let her know that I’m thinking of her. Make one for someone you know!

Just as a note, I’ve begun to make my cards clean and simple. Just colouring with my Copic markers and a bit of sparkle glue…no flowers, bows and ribbons! I even create the borders around the image on my computer using my Silhouette Studio software (any software would do). So, much less cutting, measuring and gluing. I like it!

Cards of all kinds!

I finally kicked into action this week and made a few cards. It just seemed to happen smoothly, unlike other times when I labour (for what seems like hours) over which image to use with which paper, and so on. You’ve probably been there yourself, right?

It all started when I saw a card on Facebook that had been coloured with Prismacolor pencils on Kraft coloured card stock. I have always coloured with Copic Markers on white stock, and was ready for something new. It was fun and I really like the way the cards turned out. By the way, I also used a white gel pen to add some highlights and a touch of sparkle glue.

A froggie get-well card

Isn’t it great when you find just the right image for the card you’re making?

My cousin, Pierre, is in the hospital and I wanted to make him a cheery get-well card. I took my inspiration from this comical froggie king statue that he posted to Facebook. A quick look in my digis library and up popped a frog wearing a crown. Yay!

So, here’s how I created my little froggie card…

traced and detached the frog digi, using my Silhouette Cameo
traced and cut out a lily pad, a free image that I found using Google Search
created the square background using a blue polka dot background from my Silhouette library
coloured the frog with my Copic markers…now, here comes the fun part…
after colouring the frog, I used a Copic colourless blender to create lighter spots on the frog, then…
I turned the frog over, wrong side up and, using a foam mat and an embossing tool (see photo below) I made depressions all over my little froggie king; when I turned it right side up, those little depressions appeared as bumps…the photo below shows the embossing tools and the black sponge mat.

Embossing tools and a sponge mat are very inexpensive and are must-haves in every paper-crafting studio.

After gluing the lily pad to the front of my card, I then added a “Wobble Spring” to the back of the frog and attached it to the lily pad. A little flick of the finger and the frog wiggles and wobbles.

I always finish the inside and back of my cards to match the front. A funny quote on the inside left panel should bring a smile to my cousin’s face.

No Globug Ideas card is finished until it has my logo on the back.

Birthday cards for my fabulous friends

This is been a season of happy birthdays…

In the space of three weeks, three of my wonderful friends celebrated birthdays. Of course, I just had to make a special card for each of them. So, in chronological order by date, here are my birthday cards for three amazing women. I totally enjoyed making each and every card. I must add, that there is a fourth wonderful woman in our little group of friends and that would be Julie, whose birthday was in July. I’ve always thought of Julie, with her quiet and gentle ways, as a sweet flower, so I made her a pretty peonies card.

Anick, baker par excellence: thank you for all the dozens and dozens of delicious chocolate birthday cupcakes you made for me over the many years that we worked together. Since I retired, I am quite cupcake-deprived! I coloured your card with my Copic markers and added a touch or realism to the cupcake with 3D Crystal Lacquer. To add dimension, I did some “fussy cutting” to pop up the cupcake and the birthday girl. Anick, you truly are “my fabulous friend.”

Here is a close-up of the inside messages.

Jackie, woman of many talents and loving cat lady: It was tough to decide whether I should make you a card that said, “singer, actress, world traveller,” or “loving mommy to your two beautiful kitties.” I decided on this kitty card because you have such a passion for your furry babies. I coloured your card with my Copic markers and did lots of “fussy cutting” to pop up the flowers and the kitty. A touch of sparkle glue added some birthday bling.

I managed to get in a tiny reference to music with the little image and quote on the first inside panel.

Angie, my very stylish friend: Angie, you always look so put together. You have such a great sense of style and an equally great wardrobe. You inspire me to want to lose weight and to spruce up my wardrobe. You are, indeed, my favourite fahsionista.

As always, I coloured this card with my much-loved Copic markers. I used sparkle glue to add bling to the strings of jewels. Angie, I can just see you wearing these shoes! Here’s a close-up of the bling-bling…
