Colouring a glass bottle…still trying!

I remember when I first started colouring, I really didn’t think much about all the different aspects of an image–things like shading, shadows, depth and texture. These days, I’m focused on learning all the cool techniques to bring my work to life. The image to the left is a free digital stamp called “Cheese and Wine.” It’s available at Digistamps4joy to use in this month’s challenge. By the way, I work primarily with Copic markers, but I also use Prismacolor pencils, gel pens and, on occasion, water colours and pastels.

I hadn’t coloured glass before I tried it on this image. It’s a long way from where I want it to be, but I’ll keep working at it until I get it just right.

Cards of all kinds!

I finally kicked into action this week and made a few cards. It just seemed to happen smoothly, unlike other times when I labour (for what seems like hours) over which image to use with which paper, and so on. You’ve probably been there yourself, right?

It all started when I saw a card on Facebook that had been coloured with Prismacolor pencils on Kraft coloured card stock. I have always coloured with Copic Markers on white stock, and was ready for something new. It was fun and I really like the way the cards turned out. By the way, I also used a white gel pen to add some highlights and a touch of sparkle glue.

Mostly Copic with a dash of Prismacolor and a sprinkling of gel pen.

I love this Power Poppy image, Everything’ Rosy. I have coloured it several times, using various colours and techniques. In this image, I added a dash of white gel pen to the edges, let’s call it artistic licence. That’s what’s so great about art, you are free to create, add, delete or alter your work any way the mood hits you.

75th Birthday card for Lois

Happy Birthday, Sis!

My good friend, Lois, whom I like to think of as a sister I chose for myself, just celebrated her 75th birthday. Because we live hundreds of miles from each other, we weren’t able to be together to celebrate her big day. So, I did the next best thing (as all card-makers do), I made her a special birthday card.

This gorgeous cupcake image is by Vanilla Arts Co. I just discovered them a couple of weeks ago and I am in love with their images…but, I digress.

I decided to make an easel card so that Lois could stand it up easily on a table or shelf. The best part of making this card was, as always, colouring it with my Copic Markers. Here are some photos of the finished card…

Isn’t this a beautiful image? It was such a delight to colour.

As it happens, Lois is in the process of making some big life changes and I wanted the messages in my card to be encouraging to her as she works through the decision-making process. I just know that this coming year is going to be fantastic for her!

A birthday card for Pat

It’s been said that friends are family you choose for yourself…

I know for a fact it’s true! I have been blessed with two wonderful “sisters,” Pat and Lois. So, let me start by sending a big, warm September 9th birthday greeting to Pat. I made a birthday card for this special lady using one of my favourite Power Poppy digital stamps, “Layer Cake.” I created shine on the candy decoration using Crystal Lacquer 3D. The colouring was done with my Copic markers.

This cake is so much fun to colour and there’s no limit to how many “flavours” you can create. Just for fun, I added a little pocket to the front of the card to hold some birthday messages. I always finish the inside of my cards, too…

And, last but not least, my cards are never finished until my Globug Ideas logo is put onto the back.
